Cycling in London
Cycling in London is a past-time and method of transport that has grown in popularity since the turn of the millennium. Cyclists in the city make use of a cheaper, quicker, healthier and cleaner mode of transport than public transport or car users. Journeys are often short and easily managed by bicycle, making moving around the city a pleasant experience. A well made bicycle can be expensive but works out cheaper than long term public transport or car use.
Furthermore a bike will last many years, with a minimum of maintenance, whether a brand new machine or even a quality second hand one. There are over a million bicycle owners in London, although cyclists make up a much smaller fraction of the traffic on London’s roads as compared to that of other major European cities.
As of July 2010 Transport For London have made short term rental bikes available for hire in nine London boroughs in order to assist Londoners get cycling!
